Dear Parents,

A large part of the social studies curriculum in grade 2 is the study of holidays, celebrations and traditions from Canada and around the world. The Great Grade 2′s would like to invite you to help us learn more about our own family traditions.

If it’s not too much trouble, would you mind leaving us a ‘comment’ and telling us about the special holiday traditions in your family?

Sincerely,

The Great Grade 2′s

p.s. – Mr. H will start us off with his family’s tradition…have fun!

One special Hunter family tradition is to have a special Holiday dinner with the ‘extended’ family (e.g., Mr. Hunter’s family and Mrs. Hunter’s family). It is always yummy and lots of fun! We usually have this dinner on Boxing Day, which is the day after Christmas (December 26th).

Another special Hunter family tradition is that Mr. and Mrs. Hunter always let the wee little Hunters open one present on Christmas Eve. Usually it’s a present already under the tree, like from Grandma or Uncle Ian. I’m not really sure why we do this or how it started but our little turkeys enjoy it, and that’s all that really matters at this special time of year!

I look forward to reading about your family’s special traditions!

Our cousins, and our aunt and our Grandma and Grandpa come over before Christmas and we decorate gingerbread houses every year! We use A LOT of candy and icing. It’s delicious! We listen to Christmas music and we drink hot chocolate.

At Christmas time we go to the farm and play a game called Secret Santa. Last year I put in bird seed and this year I am going to put in a dog toy. It could be very useful because all my aunts and uncles have dogs. After me and my cousins have our own Secret Santa and bake gingerbread cookes and make a snowman.

WOW! Can I come, Emilie? Pretty, pretty, please?:)

Seriously, that sounds like a wonderful family tradition. Your idea of giving a dog toy is very thoughtful. I’m sure your aunts and uncles will love their presents!

    Have a wonderful holiday!
